Statement :

My work spans the disciplines of painting, multi media and collaborative art practice,. I was a member of Temple Bar Bar Gallery and Studios from 1986 – ’09  and was a member of the board from ‘06-’09. I was a lecturer in Fine Art in the DIT  for 20 years during which time I established a number of community based initiatives, in particular a Women’s Art Studies, aimed at women from the locality of the art college in Portland Row, North Inner City, and Modules in Arts in Context and Gender Studies through the Medium of Art.  In 2009 she received an award from the DIT Access Programme for her work within Participatory Arts.

I also received two seed-funding  bursaries for Creative Practice from the Faculty of Applied Arts and in  2001 was awarded a one year sabbatical  to pursue my studio practice.  In 2010 I was awarded a 1% for Art commission from Offaly Co. Council and a solo show from Co. Offaly Arts Office.

 

I have exhibited widely in solo and group shows in Ireland, Spain, South Africa and the U.S.A.  My awards for art practice include a G.P.A  Award for Emerging Artists, an Irish Life Award for Visual Art and the Norah McGuinness award for painting.

I have a particular interest in working in Arts in Context and have facilitated many women’s community groups. I have worked as artist – in -resident with Barnardos in Moyross in Limerick and St. Finbarrs Hospital Cork,  In 1989 I developed a community art women’s  project  ‘A Woman’s Place ‘ which won an award in the Dublin’s millennium  celebrations and in 2001 I was Artist in the Community in the Tate Liverpool.

 

Recent Art Practice:

For the past number of years I have worked in collaboration with the artist Therry Rudin Recent projects include, The Sheets are Laid in Perfect Order, West Cork Arts Centre (2006) The Laundry Project, St. Finbarrs Hospital as part of the Cultural Capital events(2007)  Bawnslieve, which formed part of the Shifting Groundinitiative (2007), White,, Showing work from our residency in St. Finnbarrs Hospital, Triskel Gallery Cork.  Body of Water, Barcelona and West Cork Arts Centre (2008/9).  In 2010 I received a solo show award by the Offaly Co Council which was shown in Aras an Chontae, Tullamore  in Nov. 2012. Title: ‘Topsoil’
